چکیده
• ZrB2-SiC ceramics were joined using Ni foil filler and spark plasma sintering. Joining mechanisms of identified. Mechanical tests performed to evaluate the mechanical properties fabricated joints. Oxidation behaviour joint was characterised analysed over a wide range temperature. is crucial for ultra-high temperature (UHTCs) be used in demanding environments due difficulty manufacturing large complex ceramic components. In this study, ZrB 2 -SiC composite UHTCs parts via as filler, oxidation -SiC/Ni/ZrB (ZS/Ni/ZS) investigated. Firstly, dense composites prepared from nano-sized powders by sintering (SPS). The then SPS. Furthermore, elastic modulus, hardness, shear strength high ZS/Ni/ZS examined its performance. experimental results showed that effectively SPS resultant microstructures free any marked defects or residual metallic layers joint. Although modulus hardness joining zone lower than those base ceramics, reached ?161 MPa, demonstrating satisfactory properties. revealed possesses good resistance elevated temperatures (800–1600 o C), paving way employment extreme environments.

Lattice thermal conductivity of ultra high temperature ceramics ZrB2 and HfB2 from atomistic simulations
Atomistic Green-Kubo simulations are performed to evaluate the lattice thermal conductivity for single crystals of the ultra high temperature ceramics ZrB2 and HfB2 for a range of temperatures. Recently developed interatomic potentials are used for these simulations. Heat current correlation functions show rapid oscillations which can be identified with mixed metal-Boron optical phonon modes. A...
متن کاملEffect of Silicon Carbide and graphite additives on the pressureless Sintering mechanism and microstructural characteristics of Ultra-High Temperature ZrB2 Ceramics Composites
The effect of SiC content, additives, and process parameters on densification and microstructural properties of pressureless sintered ZrB2– (1–10 wt %) SiC particulate composites have been studied. The ZrB2–SiC composite powders mixed by Spex mixer with 1-2wt% C (added as graphite powder) and CMC have been cold-compacted and sintered in argon environment in the temperature range of 1800–2100ºC ...
متن کاملEffect of SiC Content on the Ablation and Oxidation Behavior of ZrB2-Based Ultra High Temperature Ceramic Composites
The ablation and oxidation of ZrB₂-based ultra high temperature ceramic (UHTC) composites containing 10%, 15% and 30% v/v SiC were tested under different heat fluxes in a high frequency plasma wind tunnel. Performance was significantly affected by the surface temperature, which was strongly dependent on the composition. Composites containing 10% SiC showed the highest surface temperature (>2300...
متن کاملMicrostructure and high-temperature strength of textured and non-textured ZrB2 ceramics
Zirconium diboride (ZrB2) ceramic possesses a unique combination of nice mechanical performance, high melting point (> 3000 °C) and great high-temperature oxidation resistance (up to 1600 °C), which makes it a promising material system for ever-increasing ultra-high temperature (UHT) applications. However, ZrB2 suffers from poor mechanical performance at UHTs, which could strongly limit its app...
متن کاملUltra High Temperature Ceramics: Densification, Properties and Thermal Stability
Hypersonic flights, re-entry vehicles, and propulsion applications all require new materials that can perform in oxidizing or corrosive atmospheres at temperatures in excess of 2000°C and sometimes over the course of a long working life. Ultra High Temperature Ceramics (UHTCs) are good candidates to fulfill these requirements. Within this family, the ZrB2 and HfB2 based composites are the most ...
